Northeast-Midwest Vernal Pools Collaborative

Small Wetlands, Regional Impact

We protect vernal pools across the northern temperate forests from Minnesota to Maine through a regional framework for mapping, monitoring, and sharing high-quality vernal pool information.

About Us

Advancing Vernal Pool Conservation through Regional Collaboration

The Northeast-Midwest Vernal Pools Collaborative is a public/private partnership dedicated to addressing the unique challenges associated with vernal pool conservation, increasing awareness and protection, leveraging partner contributions, and facilitating a learning exchange between researchers. Generously funded by NASA’s ROSES Citizen Science for Earth Systems Program, our collaborative inventories vernal pools using LIDAR and L-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) with field verification by local community partners and citizen scientists.
